Custom or white-label GPS platform: which is right for you

· 4 min read

Build from scratch or license a white-label platform: cost, time, risk, and when each path makes sense.

The question every tracking company asks

As a tracking company grows, there comes a point where the platform it rents falls short or costs too much per device. Two paths open up: build your own custom platform or license a ready-made white-label platform.

When custom makes sense

  • Your edge is a feature no platform offers.
  • You need deep integration with a large client's in-house systems.
  • You have the budget and time for a multi-month project and a team to maintain it.

When white-label makes sense

  • You want to sell tracking under your own brand as soon as possible.
  • You work with common devices (Teltonika, Queclink, Concox…) and need them working from day one.
  • You'd rather invest in sales and support than rewrite what already exists.

The middle path

Many companies license a white-label platform and commission custom work only for what sets them apart: a special report, a client integration, a web service for a government agency, or an app for a specific use case. It's the fastest and lowest-risk option.

We build on both paths: custom tracking platforms like this one or this one built on Traccar, and custom development on TrackeraX, the white-label GPS platform from the same team.
